Silicone in conditioners causes damage to hair

Silicone in conditioners causes damage to hair

Many people are starting to realise the damage silicone has on their hair. This is due to the fact, it makes your roots look greasy and your ends look dry. Thus you are forever having to wash your hair.

This is a great marketing trick for “cone” shampoo and “cone” conditioner companies. To make you buy more of their products.

Because the first time you wash your hair, your hair looks and feels amazing. It is super shiny and where did that frizz go?

Well, thanks to the “cone” that coats your hair. It has made your hair glossy.

But within a few days, your hair starts to look greasy at the roots. So you wash it again, and again and again. With this same beautiful shampoo.

But what you do not realise is it’s the shampoo or conditioner that makes your hair look greasy. Not your body’s natural oils.

“Cone” is a problem

Silicone is a problem

The problem is most people have no idea why their hair looks greasy and why they have to keep washing their hair.

Sometimes they blame the environment or the heat. But they usually do not know that it can be the “cone”-based shampoo or conditioner giving you all your problems.

The pro-cone crowd says silicone helps to make your hair shiny and free of frizz. That is true the first time you use the shampoo or conditioner it gives that effect. But what about in the long run?

The choice to go cone-free can be difficult. As it takes a while to see the impact these shampoos and conditioners have on your hair.

Is silicone safe?

Shampoos and conditioners containing “cone” are safe. One  2014 study by a Trusted Source said it was.

The researchers looked at trials done on animals and humans. They found that 62 ingredients were derived from “cone” that are used in cosmetics. They said they were safe at the concentration used in the products they tested.

Why go cone-free?

As said some people love to use hair products with “cone.” As this helps to control their unruly hair. Thus making it into beautiful silky and shiny hair. But what they may not notice is “cone”  builds up over time.

Each hair becomes heavier and greasier at the roots. Thus creating greasy-looking roots due to the build-up and dryer hair on the mid-lengths and ends.

If you have straight hair this leads to limp lifeless hair.

If you have curly hair the heaviness of  “cone” may lead to less bounce in your curls. Thus eventually flattening out your curls.

Going silicone-free revives your hair and yourself.

As ” Your hair is 90% of your selfie.”

Do you love “cone?”

Do you love silicone?

If you prefer to use a silicone shampoo and conditioner that is no problem. You can remove the build-up of “cone” in your hair with a clarifying shampoo like this deep-cleansing “cone-free” shampoo – PURA D’OR Apple Cider Vinegar Shampoo & Conditioner

But these shampoos can be harsh on the hair and scalp. As they strip all your natural oils too. These natural oils are there for a reason. To protect your scalp and your roots from harsh environmental damage.

So, if you are using a clarifying shampoo please only use it once in a while. Roughly about once a month.

I would suggest using a more natural form like an apple cider vinegar rinse cleanse your hair. You can buy the vinegar here.

Ultimately, the choice to use a “cone-free” shampoo and conditioner comes down to you. If you like how your hair looks and feels then there is no need to change.

But if you think cones are the culprit behind your limp and greasy-looking hair. Even the result of your hair breaking. Then consider using a “cone-free” shampoo and conditioner. You will notice the difference.

How did I choose the best “cone-free”  conditioner?

How did I choose the best silicone-free conditioner

As no two people are the same and no two strands of hair are the same. You will find that what conditioner works for one person may not work for another. Even smells are a strong factor in choosing a conditioner.

So I created a list that hopefully fulfils all of your dreams.

I selected a few different conditioners at various prices and kept all hair types in mind.

I looked at online reviews, prices and ingredients. I also double-checked that the products I have recommended truly have no silicones (typically these ingredients end in “-cone”).

    Frequently asked questions

“Cone-free” means that the formula inside the conditioner does not contain silicones in any way. Silicone is a synthetic ingredient made up of silica.

What do “cone-free” conditioners do to your hair?

They leave your hair looking silky and shiny without the look of great roots and dry ends. The lack of “cone” allows moisture to penetrate your cuticle. Which results in less buildup, more volume, and hydration.

How can you tell if the conditioner is “cone-free?”

It should be clearly stated on the label but if it is not please check the ingredients list for anything that ends in the word “cone.”

    Takeaway

    Takeaway

While it’s safe to use conditioners that contain cones. The problem is “cone” products will build up on your hair over time.

Which will lead to greasy, limp hair with dry ends. It can also result in hair breakage. So your hair gets shorter rather than longer.

If you’re noticing greasy roots and dry ends. Then using a “cone-free” shampoo and conditioner may help your hair have more body. It will look cleaner and feel fresher.

I hope this helps. Have a good day.
